Welcome to the MERSD School Committee
Who We Are
The MERSD School Committee, as a representative body, consists of nine Committee members. Seven Committee members are elected by voters from their respective towns and hold office for a period of three years. Of these seven voting members, four represent Manchester and three represent Essex. MERSD Superintendent Pam Beaudoin and MERSD Operations & Finance Director Avi Urbas serve as the eighth and ninth members and are non-voting members.
There are four subcommittees: Elementary Facilities Subcommittee, Finance Subcommittee, Communication & Policy Subcommittee, and the Negotiation Team. Subcommittees typically meet monthly, or more frequently as needed.
What We Do
The School Committee is responsible for establishing the educational goals and policies that will guide the District Committee, administration, and staff, including employing a Superintendent who will implement its policies. The Committee is also responsible for recommending a budget for approval at our members’ Annual Town Meetings.
The School Committee meets the first and third Tuesday of each month, at 6:00 pm in the MERHS Library/Learning Commons, 2nd floor of the high school, unless otherwise noted. All Committee and Subcommittee Meetings are posted on the MERSD Calendar. The Committee recognizes Public Comment at the start of each meeting. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
