Severe headaches, dizziness and nausea have been noted in school.  Fever may or may not be present.  Please contact the school nurse if your child experiences this illness.  Your child must remain home until they are fever free, (without fever reducing medication) for 24 hours.

Flu season continues and positive cases are in the community.  Health Services is seeing sorethroats related to upper respiratory illness. Allergy season started early.  You may need to start allergy medicine if your child's physician has prescribed daily treatment.  If you child is diagnosed with strep throat or any other illness requiring treatment, please notify the school nurse.

Tics are also showing up in the community.  Remeber tic checks on your pets and after being in the woods.

Please remember to forward grade 7 & 10 physicals to health services.

Don't forget to look around the site to find useful links, guided meditation audio, belly breathing video and medical forms.

Children of all ages must be physically, mentally and emotionally healthy so they are able to learn. Manchester Essex school nurses promote the health and safety of our students in school, at home, and in the community.

Throughout a child's school career, the Massachusetts State Department of Public Health, School Health Unit, requires certain screenings to be completed by the School Nurse. The mandated screenings are listed below:

Vision and Hearing is tested in grades7 & 10.

Spinal or Postural Screening is completed in grades 6-9. This screening for scoliosis is done yearly during these grades when the greatest growth spurts occur. If you choose not to have the screening performed by the School Nurse, the screening MUST be documented on the physical examination done be the child's Physician or Nurse Practitioner.

Physical Exams and BMI Screenings are required in grades 7 & 10.
