i-Ready FAQs

i-Ready Diagnostic is one of several student assessment tools used by our district. i-Ready Diagnostic is designed to help teachers identify students’ learning needs, provide tailored instruction, and monitor progress throughout the school year.

The state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education authorized use of several assessment tools, including i-Ready,  to meet the requirements of the state’s Early Literacy Universal Screening policy. i-Ready is used by a number of districts in the state.

The purpose of the early literacy screening is to gather information on the most predictive literacy skills, making it possible to identify each student’s risk of experiencing reading difficulties, including risk of dyslexia. The screening and analysis of data enable teachers to respond quickly by providing targeted, evidence-based instruction at the first sign of reading challenges, and adjusting to meet individual student needs.

i-Ready also allows us to monitor student learning trends across literacy and mathematics K-8, which ensures we can monitor student growth over time.

K-8 students are assessed through i-Ready three times each year.

After completing the i-Ready Diagnostic, elementary students receive a personalized MyPath with online lessons targeting their specific learning needs. These adaptive lessons reinforce prior skills and focus on areas for growth.  

In Grades K-5, students on average use i-Ready MyPath for no more than 40 minutes each week.

Educators regularly analyze data from multiple sources to inform our instructional approaches. This allows us to:

• Meet the needs of all learners effectively
• Develop individualized plans to support learning
• Identify differences across student groups
• Track trends, by both student cohort and grade level
• Track historical trends within our schools
• Assess the effectiveness of our curriculum and programs, and identify areas of improvement
• Ensure that we are consistent in our learning practices from Kindergarten through Grade 8

i-Ready collects basic information, like your child's name and learning progress but not health records or home addresses.

Manchester Essex is a member of the Student Data Privacy Consortium (SDPC), a national group that addresses privacy issues. All platforms we use in the district sign student privacy agreements, including i-Ready. Information we gather through i-Ready is used for authorized educational purposes only.

Curriculum Associates, i-Ready’s developer, has signed an agreement with SDPC to ensure compliance with all applicable privacy laws, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Curriculum Associates has assured all school districts that it does not sell student data, use it for advertising, or build commercial profiles on students.
