Weather is often very difficult to predict. We will make the decision to delay, cancel, or hold school as scheduled after consulting with the police departments, the DPW’s and the facility manager concerning the walking and driving conditions. The options we will consider are school cancellation, 1-hour delay, or a 2-hour delay with starting times for schools pushed back by the designated delay accordingly.
Transportation schedules can be affected by weather conditions as well. There can be delays in pick-ups and drop-offs at bus stops. Buses must deal with the same conditions that affect commuters.
As a parent or guardian, we realize you must make a safe judgment call regarding whether your commute to school is viable. The ultimate decision should be based on safety and that decision resides with the parent or guardian.
If a storm begins after school is in session, it is prudent to keep our students for the entire day since there are so many working parents, and it is unsafe to release a child without proper home supervision. If you, as a parent, feel you must pick up your child earlier than the normal release time, please know that you have the right to do so.
We would encourage all families to make alternative childcare arrangements well in advance of any of these emergency delays and closings that might arise.
Thank you for your understanding.
Sincerely,
Marcia Adams O’Neil
Superintendent of Schools
