PRESS RELEASE
December 2003 The Manchester - Essex Regional School Committee recently formed a Steering Committee to conduct a thorough review of the Regional Agreement. The Agreement represents the contract between the towns of Essex and Manchester by the Sea that caused the formation of the Manchester - Essex Regional School District. It is expected that the work of the Steering Committee will result in specific recommendations to the School Committee for amending the Regional Agreement with final decisions to be made by the Town Meetings of each member town.
The Steering Committee was organized to include an independent facilitator, a member of the Board of Selectman from each town and a member of the Finance Committee from each town. Those serving on the Steering Committee are: Jay Bothwick (Manchester by the Sea Fin. Com.), Dawn Grohs (Manchester by the Sea Selectman), Jeff Jones (Essex Selectman), Gordon Martin (Essex Fin. Com.) and Dr. Robert Couture, Facilitator/Chairman.
Each meeting of the Steering Committee will include significant opportunities for public comment and access to the review process. Citizens are urged to become involved in this important process. Citizens of Essex and Manchester by the Sea are invited to attend all meetings and are encouraged to share concerns and suggestions. All meetings will be posted and open to the public. The meetings will be held alternately in Essex and Manchester by the Sea.
The January meetings will begin with public hearings, an excellent opportunity for townspeople to share opinions and ideas about the Regional School Agreement and the apportionment of responsibility to each town. Meetings are scheduled as follows:
January 6, 2004, 7:30 P.M., Essex Elementary/Middle School Agenda: 1. Public Hearing 2. Review of the Agreement
January 27, 2004, 7:30 P.M., Manchester - Essex Regional High School Agenda: 1. Public Hearing 2. Review of the Agreement.
