CONGRATULATIONS to Olivia Lantz and Fiona Davis on their performances at yesterday’s MIAA all-state indoor track & field championships! Olivia made the winners’ podium in the mile, finishing third in an extremely deep and fast field. Her time of 5:07.29 is three seconds faster than her time at the Division 4 meet the previous weekend, and qualifies her for the all-New England Indoor Championships this Friday evening at the Reggie Lewis Center (5:00 p.m. start).
Fiona, the #23 seed in the two-mile, placed 18th in 11:54.86 in a race that went out extremely fast. Her strong last lap caught Weymouth’s Molly Barker at the line by .03. Sunday’s meet was an excellent capstone to Manchester-Essex’s track season; thanks to all who came in support of these two athletes – teammates, friends, and family members – providing a cheering section right in front of the awards podium. Indeed, the Massachusetts all-state indoor meet is one of the best sporting events of any kind, anywhere.
