Regional School Building Subcommitte Notes
Committee Recommends Woburn Firm for School Building Project

11/15/2004

The School Building Subcommittee recommends the firm of Mount Vernon Group Architects to conduct sites selection and building design. Mount Vernon was chosen from thirteen architectural firms who applied to conduct site analysis and to design the planned new middle and high school facilities. The School Committee is expected to act on the recommendation on Tuesday, November 16th.

The process of architect selection included review of applications from thirteen firms, interviews of four finalists, and site visits to schools designed by three semi-finalists. Mount Vernon was chosen because they demonstrated significant experience building public as well as private schools. Their projects include site analysis and school design in Ashland MA, numerous new and renovated high and middle schools, a library at St. John’s Preparatory School, a gymnasium at Shore Country Day School, renovations at Landmark School, and work at Northern Essex Community College and Babson College.

The committee believes that this firm is well equipped to meet the needs of the Manchester Essex Regional School District. The firm convinced the committee that they will be sensitive to the needs of the communities and will deliver a school that is a good value.

The next School Building Subcommittee meeting is Monday November 22 at 7:30 in room 25 of the High School. Members of the public are invited.
